Pimp My Listing Photo #1

December 6th, 2007 Pimp My Listing Photo

“I’ve got a problem…seems that fall does something to the grass and landscaping, and the sun never shines here in the Midwest either.”

Before…

Good things are that it’s in focus, nicely composed and no real problem areas.

After…

Patched the grass up a little. Sky edit. Minor tweak to correct verticals. Brought out the color a little more. Looks slightly pre-twilight.

Technology sure is great. I have software like this as well but of course have no clue how to use it. It is a good thing my assistant does :) Certainly makes for a better presentation!

As a photographer (amatuer) with Photoshop skills, I completely understand the possibilities of the technology. Having the sky turned blue seems alright because there’s really nothing the current owner did to change (or not change) the weather.

I do have a bit of an issue with the grass being improved, however. If the lawn sucks because the current owner negligently allowed grubs to destroy it, shouldn’t the photo show the lawn in its current condition? Yes, I have removed (electronically) some leaves blown onto my lawn before I shot the main exterior, but if the lawn had great chunks burned/decayed out of it, I would have been clicking my husband’s ear “Cuz we’re selling, silly!” instead of clicking a mouse on the ol’ Dell. Imagine a potential buyer coming up and seeing a tattered lawn after *not* seeing one on the photos. I would think the disappointment and distrust would be re-doubled, if they thought they were being misled.

And I would LOVE to remove the TV aerial from my neighbor’s because it looked like it was coming off of my roof, but it didn’t feel honest. It felt like I would have been removing high-tension power line towers from behind the house or something. Instead I just repositioned the camera so it was obviously not on our house (in one photo) and changed the shot perspective so it didn’t show in another.

I guess the “truth in advertising” question comes into play. I hate being promised something that ain’t. I imagine others do as well.

    Just my two cents.

The grass fix is about as far as I go Sue. If it can be fixed with $3 of grass seed and water, I’m not worried by it. Photoshopping in rose bushes or something, that would be a different story.

You’ve outdone yourself. Great idea for a sub-blog.
